BACK PORCH BANJO BackPorch Banjo is an established Bluegrass band with players from all around mid-Vancouver Island. We perform up and down the island, and over the years have seen gigs as far north as April Point on Quadra Island, down to Victoria and points in between. We focus on a traditional Bluegrass sound and delight in the sweet vocal harmonies we have, as well as the diversity of songs we can perform with 3 lead singers.

LIGHTHOUSE JACK (Jack Boitani,) I am a singer/songwriter based on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. I was born and raised bilingual in Rome by an Italian father and an Irish mother. In my teens, I became a massive Bob Dylan fan and an avid record collector. I played with a band back in Rome in my 20s, then moved to Ireland for postgraduate studies and, finally, settled in Canada as of 2012. I am in my 40s and I recently got back into songwriting and performing. My primary influences are Bob Dylan, Beck, Bright Eyes, Wilco, Lou Reed, The Magnetic Fields, Sia, and Vampire Weekend. I play at most local acoustic open mics in the Comox Valley, and I am looking to produce a fully arranged album featuring my original songs. In the meantime, I post demo versions of my original songs and few covers on my YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@LighthouseJack

THE PALACE BAND & DANCERS The Palace Band was born from an era of rum smugglers and late night cabaret, when music bubbled with swinging emotion and soul. The raw sounds of old school jazz returns with an energy that will put your feet into motion and a smile on every face, combining soaring vocals with a flash of trumpet and the thunder of drums to make the old time new again. It’s impossible to talk about the creation of The Palace Band without first describing the production that formed them, A Night at the Palace. Every year, for the past 19 years, in the depths of winter, the community of Errington comes together to don their sequins, feathers, flapper dresses and frock coats to put on a completely original night of Vaudeville, Comedy and Burlesque Theatre. While there was always music involved, somewhere around the middle of this dynasty, a solid core band was formed, to be known as The Palace band. It soon became apparent that performing two sold out weekends a year was not going to be enough to satisfy the appetites of these musical mavericks. Drawing on their collective history of musical theatre, Jazz programs, and a wealth of other musical projects, they created a repertoire inspired by the jazz music of the 20’s to the 40’s. The Palace band is Tom Bradbrooke on Vocals and Piano, Kevin Robinson on Standup Bass, Luke Sales on Trumpet, James McRae on Drums, Ashlee Sales on Lead Vocals and Galen Mongeau on Vocals and Guitar.

SUE DECKER Sue Decker’s rich and warm voice, distinctive slide guitar playing, and authentic songwriting make for a powerful combination. Ever since learning to play her first guitar chords in a bluegrass jam at the age of thirty-five, Sue has been discovering her truth in song. These days, her music inhabits the borderlands where blues, folk, country, and soul meet. “We have proof here that Ry Cooder and Lucinda Williams once hooked up. Decker is a mind-blowing talent not to be missed.” ~ Midwest Record.
